Frequently asked questions

Can I change my major after I get to FSU?

Although changing your major after transferring to FSU is possible, we strongly advise selecting a major that you are committed to graduating with. Once you have accumulated more than 60 credits, switching majors can become challenging and is not guaranteed. When applying to FSU, you will be applying directly into your major. It is important to make sure you have the prerequisites that are required to be accepted into your desired major.

How early should I apply to FSU?

As early as possible! Your transcript should include the courses you are currently enrolled in or will take during the summer. You do not need to wait for these courses to be completed or for your AA degree to be posted on your transcript before applying.

Does FSU have grade forgiveness?

When applying to FSU, our admissions process will take into account grades from all courses, including any repeated ones, to calculate your transfer GPA. When you become an FSU student it is important to note, that we do not have grade forgiveness for any courses taken at FSU. However, we do offer a student-focused drop and withdrawal policy, which you can review here

If I am transferring from a previous institution, do I need to re-apply for Financial Aid (Bright Futures, Pell, etc.) or OES?

Yes! Financial Aid information from your previous school does not transfer over automatically to FSU!  You must ensure that FSU is listed for any aid you are receiving. You can refer to this link from Financial Aid for more details: https://financialaid.fsu.edu/apply-aid/transfer-noles

Can I live on campus if I am a transfer student?

Yes you can! Although there are limited spots available. Please refer to this link from FSU Housing for more information: https://housing.fsu.edu/future-residents/?student=transfer-student

Are there any scholarships available for transfer students?

As of right now, Transfer Student Services does not offer any scholarships to students. However, FSU does have additional scholarship opportunities via FS4U: https://fsu.academicworks.com/

When Should I Apply?

We typically encourage students to apply two semesters prior to your application term. The University deadlines* are listed below; however, some academic programs have earlier deadlines than those established by the University, or may admit only for a specific term. Prospective applicants should refer to the Academic Program Guide for program application deadlines. All information used to make an admission decision must be received by the published deadlines.

Spring Summer Fall
October 1 March 1 June 1

*If the University deadline falls on a weekend, applicants have until the following Monday to submit their applications and all supporting documents. In addition, the University reserves the right to close transfer admission earlier if warranted by enrollment limitations and the number and quality of applications.
